Personal Goals For 2009

To continually keep myself and K.M.M.A. evolving for the future.

Especially in the areas of
  • keeping up to date with the latest in training technology
  • increasing students development of skill level and flexible attitudes to change
When training for my Brown Belt I was travelling to the coast once a fortnight and decided that after achieving this level I would have some time off. However once I was graded, it gave me such a buzz that I was motivated to train more, and start travelling once a week to the coast.
Club Goals For 2009

To increase club fellowship amongst club members by, travelling to competitions and fight nights as a club and holding club BBQ’s, and pizza nights at Pizza Hut (these are a few examples).
To Develop a group of instructors, to achieve this I need to finalise the KMMA Instructors Manual (which I have been working on for quite awhile). This will add a professionalism to the class instructor and a consistancy to the classes.

Thur 18-12-08: What a night! Thunder, lightning and 4 new brown belts. Kachi club members travelled down to P.U.M.M.A. on the Gold Coast to see K.M.M.A. head coach Joe Perry presented with his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Brown Belt. With over 50 people present representing not only Kachi and P.U.M.M.A. but also clubs from Brisbane and an actual Brazilian contingent, it was a great night of training which concluded with a belt presentation ceremony where 7 members of P.U.M.M.A. were presented with new belts. 2 blue belts were presented along with 1 purple belt, and our own head coach received one of the 4 brown belts presented on the night. Congratulations to Joe from all of us at K.M.M.A., we're looking forward to training with Toowoomba's first BJJ brown belt in the new year.

Sat 31-5-08: Wow!! In our short history of 13 years this is our highest level achieved in the adult classes. Congratulations to George Jukes. George was graded to “Black Level” (probationary). He completed 21 rounds of sparing comprising of 10 BJJ, 3 BJJ with strikes (wearing MMA gloves, standing and on ground, strikes to the head with knee, elbow and leg locks) 5 submission wrestling, 3 MMA and finally 3 Muay Thai. It was similar to a marathon except I made the decision when it was going to finish, when George had nothing else to give, about 1.5 hours later. I invited Rock Hard, Rings Toowoomba and P.U.M.M.A. (Gold Coast) to be involved with the sparing. Of course because of distance P.U.M.M.A. couldn’t be involved. I have to thank Pete Davis and Paul Beckman (Rock Hard Gym) for honouring us by doing 2 rounds each. They were both very impressed with how well George went. In attendance on the day, were 12 students from K.M.M.A., Chris Clayton from Fight World and Anthony and Bernie from the local Zen Do Kai Club. In total there would have been 25 spectators (including friends and family members) to witness just how hard it was and just how deep George went to complete the rounds. Refer to K.M.M.A. Grading Honour Board for more details of the grading and Georges training background also refer to the K.M.M.A. Photo Gallery for more photos.

Sat. 17-5-08: We had a grading day at TSHS basketball stadium. In the juniors 6-12yrs we had Joshua Wilson attain his blue level. In the seniors 13-16yrs Gold level was attained by Tristan Sorensen and Adam Cordingley. In the MMA, Gold level was attained by Gail Kirkpatrick, Melissa Logan, Gerard Ball and Guy Bradney. Blue (white stripe) was attained by Darrin Pearson. George Jukes was successful in demonstrating the techniques required to be graded for his probationary black level. His next step is going through the conditioning and sparing assessment that is required, up to 20 rounds of sparring.

Sat. 10-5-08: Training at P.U.M.M.A. at Burleigh on the Gold Coast. George Jukes, Sean Lees, Guy Bradney and David Behrendt made the 2.5 hour trek down to get some extra training in. I personally train at P.U.M.M.A. every two weeks and I like students that want to take their training to next level, to make it once a month, preferably on a Thursday. David was awarded his BJJ Blue Belt. He has achieved this through time (6.5 years) and consistency to training and being an excellent club person (we must get that right lol) always there helping with the juniors and new students in a mentoring role. Sean was awarded an extra stripe he now has 4 towards his Blue Belt. Sean hasn’t been training all that long (approx. 14 months), he has a real natural feel for BJJ shows consistency in his efforts at training and is always looking at learning new things, he is like a sponge for picking up new techniques. Sean has also acquainted himself quite well in the MMA arena with 3 fights (2W, 1L) under his belt. The latest being at X-agon in Sydney on Fri. 28-3-08 (fought in a cage) where he won 4 minutes into the 1st round by rolling armbar from back control. I was very proud of this outcome because it was something that I had taught him and we had been working hard on.
